Charles Ransom, born on June 13, 1929 to Bridie and Bud Ransom in Chicago, IL, passed away on Oct. 12, 2005. Charles was the youngest of 13 children, brothers, Bennie, Wesley, Rufus, Brown, Leroy and Hardy; sisters, Bessie, Fannie, Hannah, Geneva and Lucy Mae. He graduated from Englewood High School, a Veteran of the Korean War and worked at the Chicago Tribune for 40 years until his retirement. He married Eleaza Peterson, also of Chicago. They raised their four daughters, Bonita, Belinda, Cynthia and Terri in Gary, IN. After retiring in 1986 from the Chicago Tribune, Charles discovered a fondness for computers and video taping family events. He enjoyed traveling the country with his wife and spending time at Comiskey Park cheering on his favorite team, the White Sox. He is preceded in death by wife, Eleaza; daughters, Bonita and Cynthia. He leaves to mourn two daughters, Belinda (Carl) Scott and Terri Ransom; sister-in-law, Patricia Miller; cousin, J.W. Merritt (Josephine); son-in-law, Collins Glass; seven granddaughters Kim (Paul) Bradley, Kelli (Albert) Magallan, Katherine (Aaron) Martin, Khara (Solomon) Sandifer, Kelaiah (James) Williams, Kelissa and Kristen Scott; two grandsons, Carl (Erika) Scott and Charles E. Ransom; 10 great-grandsons; and three greatgranddaughters. He also leaves one brother, Bennie Ransom; one sister, Lucy Mae Tige; and a host of nieces and nephews. All services will be held at Smith, Bizzell and Warner Funeral Home, 4209 Grant Street, Gary IN. Visitation will be from 12 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 16 with Wake from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service is 11 am Monday, October 17.
