A man who served time in prison for bringing a gun to Proviso East High School in 2004 was found shot to death on a Maywood street early Saturday, police said.
Darius Marinelli, 20, of the 1300 block of 23rd Avenue, Melrose Park, was shot and taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Maywood police spokesman Persia Allen said. Allen said Maywood police received a report of shots fired after midnight in the 800 block of South 17th Avenue.
Allen said detectives were seeking witnesses and evidence Saturday, but they had not determined a motive or identified any suspects.
Marinelli was released Aug. 4 from Vandalia Correctional Center, where he was serving a 2-year sentence for bringing a gun to the high school in Maywood on Feb. 19, 2004, when he was a student.
