The City Council this week passed a tax levy that is down about $3,000 from last year’s $8,324,530.

The small trim may or may not mean an “extremely minimal” decrease in residents’ property tax bills, Mayor Anthony DeLuca said, but the city did well by its citizens to have not only held the line but lowered the levy, he said.

The smaller levy is the result of “being fiscally prudent,” DeLuca said.

Some reduction also came from the decrease in city worker’s compensation premiums from $53,000 two years ago to $50,000 with more coverage, said mayoral aide Matt Fares.
