Helena S. Diehl, 97 years, of Portage, IN, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005 at her home. She was born on Sept. 20, 1908 in Bexbach, Germany to the late Jacob Schaffer and Berta Simone. She was married on May 8, 1929 in Chicago to Karl Diehl, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Eleanor M. Wein of Portage, IN and Marlene E. (Leonard) Aremka of Fairfield Bay, AR; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death are two brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Diehl was an area resident since 1990, was a member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, and a former member of Saarlander Verein. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 at 9:15 a.m. at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage, IN, with Father Walter Rakoczy officiating. Entombment in All Saints Cemetery Mausoleum (East entrance), Des Plaines, IL. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
