A man was killed when his car hit a light pole early Sunday on the West Side, but his passenger was not seriously hurt, police said.

According to the medical examiner’s office, Alexander Palacios, 23, of the 3200 block of North Kostner Avenue, was driving west on Lake Street about 3 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and hit the light pole in the 4300 block, said Laura West, Chicago police spokeswoman.

The investigating officer said snow or slush was on the roadway, West said, but she did not know if the weather played a role. Palacios and the passenger, a 21-year-old man, were wearing seat belts, West said.

Palacios was dead when police arrived, she said. The passenger was taken in good condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital.
