Clarke A. Greene, Chicago, formerly of Genesee Depot, passed quietly December 23, at the age of 76, after a brief, yet determined, struggle with cancer. Survived by two children, Cynthia (Mike) McChesney of Short Hills, New Jersey, and Clay (Eliz) Greene of Fox Point, Wisconsin. He was also the proud grandfather of Katie and Andrew McChesney and Grace and Callie Greene. He is further survived by two sisters, Ann (Bill) Updike of El Paso, Texas, and Dorothia (Lyman) Horton, of Carmel, California, a large extended family and many close friends. His brother Howard ‘Cope’ Greene preceded him in death. The son of Howard T. and Else (Goetz) Greene, he was third generation of a family well known in the dairy business in Waukesha County for many years. Greene attended Carlton College in Northfield, MN then transferred to the University of WisconsinMadison, where he was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity. He graduated in 1951 with a degree in Labor Economics and began his career at Brookhill Farms, the family dairy business in Genesee Depot. Later, he moved to Chicago to manage dairy production. After many years in business and consulting, he found his true calling as a tenured professor at Columbia College, Chicago, teaching entrepreneurship and small business management. He co-authored Arts Entrepreneurship: The Business of the Arts published in 2004. Beloved by students and faculty, he will be missed. In keeping with his wishes, a memorial service will be held in the late spring when people can enjoy the beautiful scenery of his childhood home and celebrate his life. Please see the June 5 edition of this paper for information on the memorial service or call the funeral home at that time. As a tribute, a memorial scholarship fund will be set up in his name at Columbia College. Donations may be made to the Clarke Greene Scholarship Fund c/o Columbia College AEMM Department, 600 S. Michigan Avenue, Suite 400, Chicago, IL 60605. Feerick Funeral Home in Milwaukee is assisting the family. 414.962.8383
