Edward L. “Bill” DeYoung, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006. He was 81. Mr. DeYoung was born and raised in Chicago, where he was a 1942 graduate of Harper High School. He began a career in insurance in 1946 with Hartford Accident & Indemnity of Chicago. In 1948 he joined the Excess & Surplus Lines firm of Jones & Whitlock in Chicago as a Casualty Underwriter where he began a long lived association with Lloyds of London. From 1950 to 1958 he was a General Casualty and Aviation Underwriter at Bowes & Company, Inc., also of Chicago. He continued his insurance career after moving to Florida in 1958 and retired in 1995 as senior director and vice president of Hull & Company, a Fort Lauderdalebased surplus lines insurance company. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jeanette; two sons, Edward W. of Steinhatchee, FL and William L. of Port St. Lucie, FL; two daughters, Karen DeYoung of Washington, DC and Patricia Ware of St. Petersburg, FL; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
