Review of Pasta Palazzo: Whether it’s a casual date or just hanging out with friends, Pasta Palazzo offers an engaging environment, timely service and great food. The daily specials (typically seafood) are a great deal, but all of the prices can’t be beat [due to] the taste, variety and sheer quantity. Build your own plates or order one of the house recipes. Plan to go home with a doggie bag but come with cash: No credit cards accepted.
Favorite romantic spot: La Creperie (2845 N. Clark St. 773-528-9050). The food’s wonderful, yet not overly filling; imaginative, yet not stuffy. It’s perfect for the foodie as well as the meat-and-potatoes diner. And in the summer, the back patio’s twinkling lights and hanging vines will have you convinced you’re vacationing in the Mediterranean.
My last meal would be at: Topo Gigio, because I crave its pastas like no other! And the canapes, and bread and wine and … oh! My mouth waters just thinking about all those yummy carbs and cheeses!
Best under the radar spot: 3rd Coast Cafe (1260 N. Dearborn St. 312-649-0730). It’s open ’til the wee hours with soups, salads, sandwiches, fabulous artwork on the walls and friendly service. Perfect for late nights or quick breakfasts.
My guilty pleasure is: Chicago Bagel Authority (953 W Armitage Ave. 773-248-9606). It’s my favorite weekend spot for breakfast or lunch … or later. Unlimited sandwich possibilities, a great neighborhood atmosphere and great prices.
