— The U.S. men’s hockey team’s disastrous run ended at 1-4-1 as undefeated Finland beat the U.S. 4-3 in the quarterfinal round. In one semifinal, Finland plays Russia, a surprise 2-0 winner over Canada. In the other, Sweden plays the Czech Republic.

— U.S. skier Bode Miller was rehabbing his ankle after twisting it while playing basketball, but he is expected to race the Olympic slalom, his fifth and final chance at a medal.

— Apolo Anton Ohno continued his quest for another short track speed skating gold medal by winning his 500-meter qualifying heat.

He moves on to Saturday’s quarterfinal round.

— The improbable run of the U.S. men’s curlers ended when Canada hit for five points in the ninth frame to eventually win 11-5. The U.S. can get bronze if it beats Britain on Friday.

— Sweden’s Anja Paerson won the women’s slalom while Sarah Schleper (10th) was the highest-finishing American ahead of teammates Resi Steigler (12th) and Lindsey Kildow (14th).

— Canada’s Cindy Klassen added a gold medal to her collection by winning the women’s speed skating 1500 meters.
