Big question: Intergalactic worms inhabit the bodies of small-town folk in this horror-comedy from “Dawn of the Dead” screenwriter James Gunn. Can zombie movie references and tongue-in-cheek humor bring this flesh-eating tale to life?
Skip it: Beginning at a slug’s pace, “Slither” accelerates into a sticky mess but never a deliciously oozing good time. It’s too polished to be campy and too goofy to send a chill down your spine, disappearing from your mind faster than a worm under your shoe. Splat.
Catch it if: You watch “Fear Factor” simply to see those tasty bugs.
Bottom line: There’s not much in “Slither” we haven’t seen before; neither the jokes nor the grotesque, bubbling slug-people ever really sink their teeth into you. It should be faster, funnier and, yes, slimier.
Bonus: Get tips for freaking out steakhouse waiters. Step one: Walk in growling “MEEEATTTTT!”
