While many have valid reasons for holding their sons back from kindergarten, Kristen Weisberg’s comment in the story, that ” … they drive first and they have one more year on them as far as height and ability, especially in sports,” is what bugs me about this trend. It is overly competitive. In an effort to shield their child from any negative social experiences, these parents cause the summer birthday boys who do enter kindergarten on time to be even “younger.” I feel school administrators should discourage this trend.
