Toby Rose Newman, 70, a retired interior designer, died May 2 of congestive heart failure in Walnut, CA. A long-time resident of Chicago, Mrs. Newman retired to Walnut Creek with her husband, Henry (Hank) Newman in 1996. Daughter of the late Edwin and Rose Lilly Rose; beloved wife of Hank; loving mother to Andrea and David Stein; sister to Carol Roskind; aunt to Leslie Goldstein and Ken Rossen; mother-in-law to Denise Michel; and dear friend to Iris Fanger, Audrey Weisman, Claire RosenEdes and Bernice Rosen-Wisch, Mitch Kaufman and Dan Wolf, Teresa and David Aretta and so many others. Toby gave, and got, great joy from her family, friends, and pets. She made time for and gave unconditional love to everyone who came into her life. She had a great eye for design, a passion for the arts and was an engaging, supporting, sincere and enthusiastic person. While these things have been taken from our presence, our cherished memories of her endure in our hears. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held May 5 in Lafayette, CA. In lieu of flowers and consistent with her great devotion to charitable causes, contributions made in her memory to the Brandeis University National Women’s Committee, P.O. Box MS 132, Waltham, MA 02454-9110, phone 888-862-8692 would be great appreciated by the family.
NEWMAN, TOBY ROSE
