I’m not saying my alderman or any of the 50 aldermen don’t do their jobs, but for them to get the proposed pay raise is not right (“Alderman makes bid for $20,000 pay hike,” Metro, May 25). All of us are having to tighten our belts with the economy we’re in; and most aldermen serve wards that the average income of the residents is far less than what the alderman currently takes home. Shouldn’t aldermen be true representatives of their wards? How can they be if they are making two or three times what their residents make?
