Reaching agreement with prosecutors Thursday in Miami to drop felony charges, Redskins safety Sean Taylor pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in an assault case, avoiding jail time that might have derailed his NFL career.
Taylor will be placed on 18 months’ probation, talk about the importance of education at 10 Florida schools and contribute $1,000 for scholarships to those schools. He had faced up to 46 years in prison on three aggravated assault charges stemming from a confrontation in June after his all-terrain vehicles were taken.
– Renaldo Nehemiah, the agent for sprint star Justin Gatlin, said the Eagles had made several inquiries to see if his client was interested in playing football. But Nehemiah said Gatlin wanted to continue his track career and did not plan to return the Eagles’ calls.
