Gordon wins on road course
Jeff Gordon grabbed his first win of the season taking Sunday’s Dodge/Save Mart 350 at California’s Infineon Raceway. Ryan Newman, Terry Labonte, Greg Biffle and pole-winner Kurt Busch rounded out the top five.
Racing leagues could merge
The Indy Racing League and Champ Car are close to unifying the two open-wheel series of American racing, and Champ Car World Series boss Kevin Kalkhoven told The Associated Press he’s “very optimistic” the deal can be completed.
Canes coach lands deal
Carolina Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette agreed to a five-year contract with the team after leading the franchise to its first Stanley Cup. Under Laviolette, the Hurricanes set franchise records for wins (52), home wins (31) and points (112).
