I was delighted to see so many politicians at the annual Gay Pride Parade this past weekend (namely Gov. Rod Blagojevich and state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, the Republican candidate for governor).
Let’s hope that their attendance was not simply an attempt to garner votes this fall but, rather, a conscious vote of support for the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) community, our efforts to achieve equality and our goal of ending discrimination.
They waved at us.
They smiled at us.
And they even shook our hands.
When we put one of them in office as our representative, I hope he or she remembers those citizens who helped get him or her there.
