The number of car drivers talking on handheld phones while driving seems to be increasing.
Wasn’t a law passed to stop this?
As a bicyclist, I can’t say we never talk and ride.
But the number of car drivers engrossed in conversations is significantly higher and much more dangerous.
Aside from creating some device that could turn off an ignition when it detects a handheld phone being used by a driver, it’s uncertain what can be done.
Installing police officers on every corner isn’t practical.
If cameras can’t capture “teledrivers” maneuvering through their telephone screens, perhaps, along with the annual vehicle sticker, the city could issue a bumper sticker.
The message:
“Don’t call me. I’m driving.”
It might be a simple reminder and create safer streets.
