How distressing to attend graduations from local high schools, prestigious undergrad programs and graduate schools, only to learn that those attending have no idea how to respect the accomplishments of their graduate or his or her classmates.

Silence in a blaring cacophonous world transmits affection, respect and true appreciation for the value of educational achievement.

Barnyard hoots and screams not only mark the ignorance of their sources, but somehow signal their belief that the graduate walks from his education unchanged by it.

It’s genuine sadness that graduation has become a forgettable shriek-fest.
