Lt. Gov. Win Rockefeller, who has a blood disorder that can lead to leukemia, told Gov. Mike Huckabee’s office this week that he is ill and temporarily unable to perform his duties.

Rockefeller spokesman Steve Brawner said Wednesday that Rockefeller’s chief of staff notified Huckabee’s office of the disability Sunday. Brawner would not elaborate on the nature of Rockefeller’s illness.

A source close to Rockefeller’s family said the lieutenant governor was in intensive care at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences with complications due to pneumonia. The source requested anonymity.

Rockefeller, 57, had two bone-marrow transplants, on Oct. 7 and March 29. Both failed to adequately treat the disorder.
