Oswego Park and Ride commuters will have bigger buses and slightly altered schedules when a new agreement between the village and Pace takes effect next month.
The Village Board this week approved a $183,349 contract with Pace to continue the 2-year-old service from a parking lot at Orchard and Mill Roads to the Aurora Transportation Center.
Beginning in late August, Pace will run 35-foot buses that can accommodate up to 40 passengers on a dozen weekday runs. It would replace two 12-passenger vans and a 15-passenger mini-bus.
Instead of the current seven daily-round trips, the new schedule calls for six runs for every morning and afternoon rush-hour period.
The village estimates that the 2-year-old Park and Ride service has averaged more than 2,000 monthly riders since last August, with slight dips in December and February.
Most of the funding for the one-year pact, which begins Aug. 21, will come from a $146,679 grant secured through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The village will contribute nearly $32,000.
