“A curious billboard had appeared outside of my office building. It doesn’t seem to be from a business, but I would be curious to find out the origin of it. The billboard is in River North, on Ontario, just west of LaSalle. It is in an alley behind the Sports Authority. I’m curious to know if the ad is for real.”

Emily certainly got Steven’s attention–and a few others’ too.

Passersby have been buzzing this week about the quirky ad that reads like a message from a scorned wife to her cheating husband. But it’s not real, said a spokesperson for Clear Channel Outdoor, the media giant’s billboard and outdoor display advertising division.

The billboard, which appears in black-and-white on the East wall of the nightclub Ontourage, says, “Hi Steven, I know all about her, you dirty, sneaky, immoral, unfaithful, poorly-endowed slimeball. Everything’s caught on tape. Your (soon-to-be-ex) Wife, Emily. p.s. I paid for this billboard from OUR joint bank account.”

“It’s an advertisement for something,” said the Clear Channel spokesperson, who didn’t want to be named. The rep added that the true nature of the campaign likely would be revealed “within the next few weeks” but declined to give more details.
