Gary A. Ackland, age 55, died Friday, July 28, 2006, at his home in Chicago, IL, after an extended cancer illness. He was born November 26, 1950, in Rochelle, IL, the son of Merle and Phyllis Cleveland Ackland. Prior to his illness, he was Vice President of Internal Audit with Aon Corporation in Chicago, IL, from 1995 until he went on permanent disability in 2002. Before that, he was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Republic Savings Bank . He started his auditing career with Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young) in 1972 and became a Senior Manager until 1986. He graduated with his BS in Accounting from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in 1972 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1974. He was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Ann Meyer and his parents, Merle and Phyllis Ackland. He is survived by his brother, Dennis J. Ackland of Casa Grande, AZ; and his sister, Janet K. Fisher of Norwalk, CT. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews: Deni (Tom) Coon of Fontana, CA, Davin J. Ackland of Juneau, AK, Kim (Chris) Fronk of Western Springs, IL, Jake (Jamie) Ackland of Beloit, WI, Shannon (Mark) Nault of San Antonio, TX, Matt (Jenny) Fisher of Littleton, CO, and Todd (Tanya) Meyer of Eden Prairie, MN. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2006, at The First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle, 1100 Calvin Road, Rochelle, at 11 a.m., with Jeff Doane, Pastor of Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church, officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, August 4, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth Street, Rochelle. Burial will be held at Lawnridge Cemetery in the Ackland family plot. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church, 600 West Fullerton Parkway, Chicago, IL 60614, and/or The First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle, 1100 Calvin Road, Rochelle, IL 61068.
