I am writing a response to the aldermen receiving a pay hike. I am so angry that they can increase their salaries without debate as a cost-of-living raise. I am a Chicago Public Schools teacher and when we negotiate for a new contract, it is not that easy. We have to threaten to go on strike and then back down because we are afraid of the loss of pay that is incurred in this process. When will the teaching profession be valued, with teachers making good salaries like the aldermen? This is an insult to Chicago teachers.
Where would anyone be without the teacher who set the foundation to learning and achieving success? Teachers’ value needs to be rewarded.
