If you’re keeping count, Will Ferrell’s (left) “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” is the fifth film by a member of Hollywood’s Frat Pack to be released in the past two months. Chicago native Vince Vaughn led the parade with “The Break-Up.” Next came Owen Wilson with “You, Me & Dupree,” Luke Wilson in “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” and this weekend, Ferrell squares off with Steve Carell (right) and his new film, “Little Miss Sunshine.” What better excuse for a RedEye faceoff.
BRAVEST FEAT
FERRELL: Filmed a “Saturday Night Live” sketch before a live studio audience in his underwear.
CARELL: Volunteered his own follicles for the chest-waxing scene in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.”
WINNER: Carell. You’d scream “Kelly Clarkson” too.
BIG BREAK
FERRELL: Became one of the most beloved players on “Saturday Night Live” by spoofing Alex Trebek, President Bush and other diabolically powerful world leaders.
CARELL: Along with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, ushered in the golden age of “The Daily Show” as a straight-faced field reporter and interviewer extraordinaire.
WINNER: Ferrell. “SNL” hasn’t been the same since he left.
MOVIE WORK
FERRELL: Stole scenes in “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” and “Zoolander,” blossomed into a star in “Old School” and “Anchorman.”
CARELL: Stood out in supporting roles in “Bruce Almighty” and “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” (which starred Ferrell), then delivered as a leading man in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.”
WINNER: Carell. His resume is a little more diverse. Ferrell’s, meanwhile, includes “Kicking and Screaming” and “Bewitched.”
BEST LINE FROM “ANCHORMAN”
FERRELL: “I’m very important. I have many leather-bound books, and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”
CARELL: “Sorry, Champ. I think I ate your chocolate squirrel.”
WINNER: Ferrell. And the man takes his scotch with a little pepper and some cheese.
SCHOOL COLORS
FERRELL: Attended the University of Southern California.
CARELL: Attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
WINNER: Ferrell. Slightly better football school.
OVERALL WINNER: Ferrell gets the checkered flag just ahead of Carell, but the loss is yours if you miss out on either movie.
