It’s a little amusing to hear some conservative voices say that the Mark Foley scandal is not a newsworthy item, and it is only being played up to discourage conservatives from voting. Instead, they say, we should be focused on topics that affect our lives, like the economy and Iraq. Democrats were trying to focus on those things two years ago, but the Republicans used the issue of gay marriage–which doesn’t affect the anti-gay crowd at all–to rally the troops, bringing them to the polls to vote on referendums. If trying to hold the Republican leadership accountable for its role in the Foley scandal is a political sin (and I’m not sure that it is), I suppose that Democrats have learned from the best.
