Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Former White Sox manager Jerry Manuel has been waiting three years for a chance to run a team again and thinks it’s time he got an opportunity from someone.

“I’m ready,” the New York Mets coach said Friday. “I’m ready to deal with it.”

Manuel has received feelers from San Francisco and Washington, which he called “very exciting” opportunities. He can’t interview until the Mets are finished in the playoffs, so Manuel has to hope the teams don’t fill their vacancies beforehand.

Despite a Manager of the Year Award in 2000 with the Sox and a .532 winning percentage from 2000-03, Manuel always seems mentioned with second-tier candidates. He interviewed for the Seattle opening before Mike Hargrove took over in 2005 and has been a coach under Willie Randolph the last two seasons.

“It’s not frustrating at all,” Manuel said. “You have to take what comes your way and make the best out of it. I’m just looking forward to getting back to [managing].”
