Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Illinois coach Ron Zook is thinking about accelerating the tempo on offense.

“When we go at a little faster tempo we seem to be a little more successful,” he explained. “You have to be a little bit careful because it puts the defense on the field sooner, so we have to deal with that issue.” . . .

More playing time is coming for freshman guard Jon Asamoah, who made his debut last weekend.

“There’s no question he’s going to be a very good football player,” Zook said. “We have half a season left; let’s get him ready to go.”

Asamoah, who played high school football at Rich East, became the 16th freshman to play for the Illini this year. The only Division I school to have used more is winless Temple with 20.
