Republicans have inundated our homes with millions of dollars worth of attack ads and mailings.

Yet they have said nothing about the issue of hunger in America.

They have said nothing about helping people develop skills that will let them rise from poverty.

Where is the morality–that “compassionate conservatism”–that George Bush promised in his first campaign for the presidency?

They have said nothing about having influence in the world through leadership and example, rather than saber-rattling and economic coercion.

They have said nothing about the Republicans making us the most hated nation on Earth.

They have said nothing about putting our country in hock to China and Saudi Arabia to support profligate spending on war.

They have said something about tax breaks for the richest, leaving crumbs for everyone else.

I voted Republican for 50 years. But this year I’m voting Democratic. I didn’t change, but the Republican Party did.
