– A Commentary piece on Wednesday stated inaccurately that Daniel Golden, author of “The Price of Admission,” testified before Congress that it should deny tax breaks to universities that give preference to children of alumni. In fact, Golden in his testimony urged colleges to eliminate this preference voluntarily and declined to specify any legislative remedies.
– On the front page of Wednesday’s Sports section, a story with the headline “Acts of compassion” incorrectly stated that Bears coach Lovie Smith did not attend a Tuesday news conference by Tank Johnson. Smith was present but did not address the media.
– Stories in Wednesday’s Metro section and RedEye edition about departing state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka’s appointment to the RTA board mistakenly identified her as the former treasurer (this sentence as published has been corrected in this text).
