This is regarding the Dec. 24 editorial “Basements, booze and teens.” What you fail to realize is that some teens are going to drink and others won’t. This is just like the teenagers of yesteryear and even before that.
What we need to do is provide all teenagers with a safe environment.
Did I say a safe environment for drinking parties?
No I didn’t.
I said what I meant, a safe environment.
Period.
We should lessen our focus on the reasons teens shouldn’t drink.
We should increase our focus on the health and welfare of our youth.
“Just say no” is passive and does nothing to keep our children alive.
Are those who “say yes” still deserving of our pro-active protection?
I say yes.
I don’t care what the law says.
The law has been wrong before.
