Better Single than Sorry

A No-Regrets Guide to Loving Yourself and Never Settling

by Jen Schefft (William Morrow, $21.95 paper)

Reality TV star Jen Schefft broke her engagement with wealthy hunk Andrew Firestone, who presented her with the final rose on “The Bachelor.” Then she rejected all suitors when she starred on “The Bachelorette” (horrors!). In this book Schefft extols the virtues of being single and waiting for the right person.

1. Sure, dating can be frustrating and no fun, and we’d all like to be in love. But being stuck in a bad relationship’s even worse, so take your time before settling down.

2. Breakups can be absolutely devastating, but if you pay attention, they’ll teach you who and what you want in a partner so you choose more carefully next time.

3. Your family and friends may think a guy or girl is right for you, but their opinions don’t make it true. If a relationship isn’t working, be honest and move on–no matter what others think.

4. Don’t talk yourself into liking a guy, no matter how nice or “perfect” he is. It’s not fair to you or him.

5. And if he’s not into you, don’t hang on. It’s crushing to your self-esteem.
