I used to smoke cigars, so I sympathize with Mary Striska, who resents the pressure modern society puts on smokers. It isn’t fair, perhaps.

The other side, though, is that smoking stinks, and the smoke is poison for the smoker and anyone sharing his atmosphere. Society is doing us a favor in pressuring smokers to quit.

What we should do now is to persuade U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), that splendid man and dedicated chain-smoker, to quit before we send him to the Oval Office. We don’t want the drapes there to be stained with cigarettesmoke.
