I donate to charities worthy of my beneficence. But every time I mail a gift, I receive requests from a dozen newcomers. I seem to have earned my way onto a “preferred list” of donors. Not exaggerating, I received more than a hundred requests for aid in the last month! To add to my aggravation, they all send me address labels “in appreciation.” My desk drawer is overloaded. I received 150 in one day!
If my gift is solicited to help those in need, why are they spending my donation and that of others on “gifts” to us?
