The neocons are headed for the hills and are now shouting, “Don’t blame us; George did it.”
They have that right.
They came up with the nonsensical notion we can reinvent the world in our image with guns, but President George W. Bush put it in place and it’s a disaster in progress.
One thing can be said in his behalf, however:
He can’t get it right but keeps at it.
If there were a World Cup for stubbornness, it has to be his.
But it’s no laughing matter. Kids are dying.
When I was in my teens I was in an infantry division in World War II and I know what every old soldier knows.
Soldiers go to war for a cause.
But in the end, they don’t fight for a cause.
They fight and die for each other.
In the final moment that’s it.
Today’s kids are fighting for a cause they believe in.
But in the end, as always, they fight and die for each other. And, in a sense, for us.
Whether we hate the war or love it, that’s one thing we should all keep in mind.
