Jean Eilenberger Rowley, 92, of Charlotte, NC, previously of Evanston, IL, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2007, in her home at Southminster Retirement Community. The daughter of the late Victoria Stafford and Robert Knapp Eilenberger, Mrs. Rowley was a homemaker. Born Aug. 8, 1914 in Chicago, IL, Jean grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the South side of Chicago. A high school graduate of the University of Chicago Laboratory School in 1931, Jean went on to the University of Wisconsin, where she graduated with honors and earned her BA Psychology, 1935. She was a member of both Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi, National Honors Fraternities. Jean was recently honored as a 75 year member of Pi Beta Phi, National Social Fraternity. She was on the executive board and an active member of the North Shore Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Chapter until moving to Charlotte in 2000. She was also an active member of the Evanston Women’s Club. Mrs. Rowley was preceded in death by husbands, Melville Murray Rawn in 1960 and Charles Morgan Rowley in 1984; her sisters, Victoria Eilenberger Fallis and Betty Eilenberger Van Horn. Jean is survived by daughter, Pamela Rawn Waller and husband, Harry of Charlotte; granddaughters, Jennifer Olson and husband, Patrick of Durham, NC and Elizabeth Pendleton of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Tea and Ronin Olson, Jackson and Thomas Pendleton; niece and nephews, Jayne Thomas of Charlotte, Jeff Van Horn of Austin, TX, Tom Van Horn of Manitowoc, WI and their families. The family wishes to thank the Southminster Care Givers as well as Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte for their assistance and kindness. Mrs. Rowley’s wishes for no memorial service are being honored. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to North Shore Carnation Circle of Pi Beta Phi, c/o Mrs.. Kenneth Burns, 15 Warrington Dr., Lake Bluff, IL 60044. Interment will be in Memorial Park, Skokie, IL at a later date. Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Centeris entrusted with the arrangements.
