College basketball, meet Sarah.
She’s got the wide-eyed, furtive look of a fan trying to predict the winning teams of March Madness.
Only she’s a chicken.
A speckled Sussex hen in southwest Atlanta who pecked a bracket that might look like yours.
She sized up the field game by game.
A pair of cards with tournament pairings were placed in front of her, and she pecked (or scratched) her choice.
When she lost interest, five look-alike hens also named Sarah provided backup off the bench.
Under the cards was cracked corn. So seeding was a factor.
Sarah’s pecks for the Final Four in the Georgia Dome: Florida, Texas A&M, Washington State and–in a plucky move–No. 14 Wright State, named for the fathers of flight.
So she probably laid an egg. Owners Ben and Adrainne Gray–he’s an Atlanta Journal-Constitution photographer–collect four each morning.
Sarah’s winner? Defending champion Florida.
No big surprise. Gator, after all, tastes like chicken.

NCAA TOURNAMENT HITS
Nevada coach Mark Fox yelled profanities and appeared ready to use force toward a police officer and game officials after the Wolf Pack lost in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, according to a police report released Tuesday. Fox told the Reno Gazette-Journal that he and official Bill Gracey encountered each other when Nevada lost 79-77 to Utah State in the WAC semifinals Friday night. “We got stuck in the same hallway. I said something to the official that I regret. I apologize to him and the conference.”
