According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Manny Acta became the first manager since Bobby Cox in 1978 to earn his first win in the majors in a game in which his team trailed by as many as five runs. Washington trailed 5-0 against Florida on Wednesday before winning 7-6.

Reliever Jose Capellan, who had been sitting out and threatening retirement since the right-hander learned last weekend he had lost the bullpen battle and was being sent to the minors, reported to the Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate in time for Nashville’s opener Thursday night.

Jamey Wright allowed two runs in four innings to the visiting Arkansas Travelers in the Frisco RoughRiders’ opener, a warmup for his first start with the Rangers. Wright, an 11-year veteran, has won the No. 5 spot in the Rangers’ rotation and is expected to start Tuesday.

Johnny Damon has a mild strain in his right calf and wasn’t in the Yankees’ lineup against the Devil Rays. He had an MRI exam earlier in the day, but the Yankees were waiting to try to determine whether it would be best to put Damon on the 15-day disabled list.

Starter Adam Eaton gave up eight runs–seven earned–and seven hits to the Braves in 4 2/3 innings in his first start for the Phillies since signing a three-year, $24.5 million contract during the off-season. “We’re looking forward to a good season,” Eaton said.

Diamondbacks outfielder Scott Hairston left Thursday night’s game against the Nationals in the first inning after fouling a ball off his left knee and was replaced by Robby Hammock. The club said he bruised the knee. X-rays showed nothing was broken. He was listed as day-to-day.
