THREE UP

Prince Fielder homered twice and scored the go-ahead run in the Brewers’ 6-4 win over the Pirates. Fielder led off the second with his seventh homer in his last 16 games. His second, in the fourth, followed a leadoff single by J.J. Hardy (17-game hitting streak).

Jake Peavy yielded one hit in seven innings and struck out 10 to lead the Padres past the Marlins 3-1. Peavy (4-1) no-hit Florida until Dan Uggla tripled with one out in the sixth and has struck 36 in his last 21 innings while lowering his ERA to 1.75.

Reds rookie Josh Hamilton completed a huge series with a pair of homers as the Reds snapped a four-game skid with a 9-3 win over the Rockies. He had two singles, a double, a triple, and a diving catch in Saturday’s loss. He’s hitting .306 with eight homers.

THREE DOWN

Freddy Garcia was injured Sunday when he ran into an equipment cart on the warning track in San Francisco. He bruised his left leg and could miss his start Monday. “I’m not upset. I’m just curious why [the cart] was out there,” Phillies GM Pat Gillick said.

Jays starter A.J. Burnett fell to 2-3 after yielding a solo HR to the Rangers’ Michael Young in the eighth inning of a 3-2 loss. He yielded just seven hits in 7 2/3 innings, lowering his ERA to 5.09, but three were solo homers (Kenny Lofton, Mark Teixeira also hit one).

It started well for the Orioles’ Brian Burres, making his first major-league start, as he struck out the side on 15 pitches in the first inning. But nine of the next 16 Indians reached base and he didn’t make it through the fourth, yielding five runs and seven hits in a 9-6 loss.
