Weddings are supposed to be joyous events, and what would make future brides and grooms happier than saving big bucks on the big day?

According to theknot.com, the average U.S. wedding costs $27,000. In Chicago, the average reception site alone can cost $13,278. And, no, that doesn’t include flowers or the ever-pricier bands.

We need your help, Q readers. Did you save big at your wedding? Tell us all about it.

Send your cheap wedding tips to q@tribune.com and be sure to include your name, address and phone number and put “wedding” in the subject line. Or mail your tips to Q section, 435 N. Michigan Ave., 5th Floor Features, Chicago, IL 60611.

We’ll use the best responses in a future edition of Q.

In the meantime, given the recent news about the pending invasion of 17-year cicadas, we advise steering clear of any bridezillas planning an outdoor wedding in late May and June.
