BASEBALL’S TOP 10
RK, TEAM
1. New Trier (24-3-1): Trey Frahler allowed six hits while striking out nine in a complete-game outing for the Trevians in Saturday’s 9-3 win over Sandburg. Chris Lashmet hit a home run.
2. Mt. Carmel (25-4): Tony Manville pitched the Caravan to a 5-1 victory over St. Ignatius, striking out 10 to lead Mt. Carmel to a share of the Catholic League Blue championship.
3. St. Rita (25-5): Mustangs became co-champs of the Catholic League Blue when Chris Chojnowski (6-2) struck out 11 and allowed four hits in a 3-0 win at Providence.
4. Willowbrook (24-5): The Warriors will play Downers South on Tuesday for West Suburban Gold title after a split with St. Rita on Saturday. Dan Scahill (5-1) fell in the 3-1 Game 1 loss.
5. Minooka (24-6): Brett VanAsdlen moved the Indians’ win streak to 19 games with a two-out, two-run walk-off homer to beat Joliet Catholic 7-6 Friday. 6. Marist (25-5): Mitch Merman threw four innings and allowed three hits for the win in Game 2 of Saturday’s 7-16, 0-0 doubleheader sweep over St. Patrick. 7. Carmel (25-5): The Corsairs swept Nazareth 7-0 and 5-1 behind pitchers Cory Stonelake (four hits) and Bobby Lyne (two hits). Jordan Sivertsen had a three-run homer for Carmel.
8. St. Charles North (25-4): North Stars defeated Geneva 9-1 on Friday behind the starting pitching of Brian De la Torriente (5-1). North Stars visit South Elgin on Tuesday.
9. Oak Forest (23-4): Brian Frank threw a complete-game four-hitter Saturday, striking out two while allowing three earned runs in a 6-4 victory over Vernon Hills.
10. Prospect (21-5): The MSL East champs routed Elk Grove 8-1 Friday. Tim Scanlan homered and A.J. Whitten went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs. Dominic Pugliese pitched six innings to improve to 5-2.
SOFTBALL’S TOP 10
RK, TEAM
1. Glenbard North (28-1): In a White Sox-like outing, Panthers edged Wheaton North 1-0 Friday as Hannah Santora improved to 20-1 with a two-hitter.
2. Sandburg (23-3): Split with defending Class AA champion Moline, winning the opener 4-0 behind four-hit pitching of Sara Olson (16-2) as Katie Pistello had two RBIs.
3. Barrington (28-3): Jessica McGurn’s three-run home run in the 9th knocked out Conant 6-2 on Friday. Claire Voris (27-2) had 14 Ks. Fillies face Prospect Thursday for Mid-Suburban League title.
4. Lake Park (23-3): Lancers won 15th in a row Friday, topping Streamwood 5-0. Shannon Starr had two RBIs, two stolen bases and Alexis Munaco a clutch RBI double.
5. Lincoln-Way Central (26-4): Rachel Larson’s grand slam and a two-run home run by Cassie Redman led Knights past Providence 10-0 last Friday.
6. Oak Park (26-5): Huskies nipped No. 10 Downers Grove South 2-1 on Kim Grimes’ RBI double in the eighth. Back-to-back doubles by Alex Morocco, Mattie Prodanovic scored the first run.
7. Beecher (24-4): Jill Jacobson (four hits), Jenna and Jacqueline Grim (combined six hits, Jenna four RBIs) led an 18-hit attack in 8-2 victory over Andrew.
8. Plainfield Central (21-7): Stephanie Kirkpatrick’s groundout drove in Kristina Maggio (double) but the Wildcats still fell short to Lockport 3-2. 9. Oak Forest (22-3): Lady Bengals knocked off Bradley-Bourbonnais 10-0 in six innings behind Carly North’s two hits and two RBIs. Diana Pickrum improved to 19-3 with a two-hitter.
10. Downers Grove South (22-5): Mustangs outslugged New Trier 12-8 as Zoe Sinner went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, but fell to Oak Park 2-1 as Jamie Buckley drove in the lone Mustangs run.
GIRLS SOCCER’S TOP 10
RK, TEAM
1. Waubonsie Valley (22-0-1): Best regular-season mark in school history behind 20 shutouts from goalkeeper Claire Hanold. The Warriors will face Bolingbrook in regional opener.
2. St. Charles North (14-2-1): Alex Massacar scored the lone goal for North Stars in 1-1 tie Thursday against Batavia. DeKalb will be next for regional host on Wednesday.
3. Neuqua Valley (19-3): Goalkeeper Rachel Suther has come up with 14 shutouts — including 1-0 victory over St. Charles East on Tuesday. First regional opponent is West Aurora.
4. Hinsdale Central (14-5-1): Missed Indiana-bound Cameron Myers (thigh) in loss Saturday at No. 6. Wheaton Warrenville South. Regional host faces IMSA on Tuesday.
5. Downers Grove South (15-4-3): Goals by Allison Horne and Jillian Wagner gave Mustangs 2-1 victory over Lockport. Kristina Magda picked up team-leading ninth assist.
6. Wheaton Warrenville South (13-4-3): Freshman Nicole La Petina scored first high school goal and Erin Jacobsen added another in 2-0 victory over Hinsdale Central on Saturday.
7. St. Charles East (12-4-1): No. 4 seed in Wheaton Academy sectional will have to recover from 4-0 loss to Waubonsie Valley to face Glenbard North in regional opener.
8. Stevenson (14-1): Dangerous offensively with Cory Steigerwald, Lauren Thut and Kristen Baader. Tough sectional includes Mid-Suburban powers Fremd and Barrington.
9. Fremd (15-4): Austin Henning’s goal gave Vikings 1-0 victory over defending state champ New Trier Friday. Opens regional play Tuesday against Crystal Lake Central.
10. Geneva (14-4-2): Callie Hemming’s two goals led Western Sun champs to victory Thursday over Rosary. No. 1 sectional seed could face rival Batavia in regional final.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL’S TOP 10
RK, TEAM
1. Brother Rice (29-0): Crusaders travel to Marist on Monday, then go for fourth tourney title of season at next weekend’s Catholic League finals at Mt. Carmel.
2. New Trier (26-7): Disappointing weekend for Trevians, who stumble to 2-3 performance at Richards tourney, including Saturday losses to Wheaton South and Downers North.
3. Mundelein (30-1): The Mustangs are poised to move up in rankings as they host Glenbrook North and Antioch this week to close the regular season. 4. Lincoln-Way East (29-4): Dante Vivona and Brenden West (5 kills each) key Thursday sweep of Andrew as Griffins reach close to within one win of fifth straight 30-win season.
5. Wheaton Warrenville South (28-4): One of the state’s hottest teams, Tigers beat another ranked team on Saturday — this time a sweep of New Trier — on way to the Richards tourney title.
6. Naperville North (26-6): Huskies rebound from Wheaton South loss to sweep Glenbard North on Thursday. Final week includes conference matches with Wheaton North and West Aurora.
7. Maine South (23-6): Niles North surprises Hawks with two-game Friday sweep. Season’s final week includes Niles West, Glenbrook South and own invitational next Saturday.
8. Neuqua Valley (28-4): Tim Matt collects eight kills in Thursday sweep of South Elgin for Wildcats (8-0 in Upstate Eight) then outlasted Plainfield South in three-game Friday marathon.
9. Hinsdale Central (27-4): Pat Dodd notches seven kills as Red Devils sweep Willowbrook on Thursday, but Red Devils can’t stop Glenbard East in Saturday’s Willowbrook tourney.
10. Addison Trail (25-4): Libertyville stops Blazers in two at Deerfield tourney. Addison Trail tunes up for regionals on Thursday with a big match at York.
