*Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin is holding a Kitten Shower through May to collect supplies and materials necessary to care for kittens. Items needed include kitten formula; animal nursing bottles and nipples; kitten toys; Science Diet kitten food; baby-size nail clippers; microwaveable Snuggle Disks (available at most pet stores); and electric heating pads without the auto-shutoff feature. Donations will be accepted during regular business hours from 2 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends at the shelter, 1000 S. LaFox Rd. FUNDRAISERS
*Cop on Top, the annual benefit for the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, will be held Friday at more than 50 area Dunkin’ Donuts shops. Law enforcement personnel will stand on the rooftops and customers can make donations to help get them off the roof. The Dunkin’ Donuts at 122 S. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights will participate from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and the ones at 893 E. Schaumburg Rd., and 477 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg will participate from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m.
*The Palatine Jaycees will host the second annual K9-3K dog walk-run fundraiser at 10 a.m. Sunday at Twin Lakes Recreation Area, 1200 E. Twin Lakes Drive, Palatine. Registration and check-in for pre-registered participants will begin at 9 a.m. Dogs and their owners will walk the 1.8-mile course to raise money for the Buddy Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue of homeless cats and dogs. Registration fees are $35 for adults and $25 for youths 17 and younger and senior citizens. A light breakfast, T-shirts and bandannas for dogs are included. * The Mental Health Resource League for McHenry County will hold its 39th annual Fair Diddly Craft show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on Woodstock Square, Dean and Van Buren Streets. The juried craft show will feature more than 300 booths. Proceeds will benefit McHenry County agencies offering mental health services. Shuttle buses will be available at the west end of the parking lot of the Government Center, 2200 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. Drop-off will be at Calhoun and Johnson Streets, near the square. *The People & Pooch Walk will be held at 10 a.m. June 10 at Busse Woods, Grove 5, Arlington Heights and Higgins Roads, Elk Grove Village. The 3.1-mile walk will benefit Alexian Center for Mental Health and the Almost Home Foundation, a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue. Walk with or without a dog. The registration fee is $25 if postmarked or received by Tuesday, and $30 after Tuesday. Those who register by Tuesday will receive a free T-shirt with $50 in pledges. *Walk for the Mental Health of It, the annual walk to benefit Kenneth Young Center in Elk Grove Village, will be held Saturday at Busse Woods, Area IV, Higgins and Arlington Heights Roads, Elk Grove Village. *Ales for Tails, a fundraiser for Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin, will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday in Prairie Rock Brewing Company, 127 S. Grove Ave., Elgin. *The Palatine Public Library is seeking local artists and sponsors to participate in the Rock ‘n’ Read summer reading program. Local artists will decorate electric guitars created by Palatine High School woodworking students for display throughout the library district. MAKING A DIFFERENCE
* McHenry County’s Mothers and More fashion show and charity auction raised $5,000 for WINGS, which provides services to end domestic violence. Mothers and More is a non-profit group that supports mothers.
* Pioneer Center for Human Services raised more $78,000 in April at its 23rd annual Gold Rush fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit programs and services for people with developmental disabilities, mental illness, traumatic brain injuries, victims of sexual assault and intervention services for children from birth through age 3.
