The Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the National Committee on United States-China Relations present “China Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections” at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the University of Chicago Gleacher Center, 450 N. Cityfront Plaza Drive.

The event is part of a national day of programming on China involving 30 cities throughout the U.S. It offers an opportunity for communities to engage in a dialogue with key China policymakers and will include a live Webcast from Washington with Ambassador Christopher R. Hill and a discussion in Chicago with Ambassador J. Stapleton Roy.

Hill is currently Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and has served as an ambassador to the Republic of Korea and Poland. Hill is also the head of the U.S. delegation to the six-party talks on the North Korea nuclear issue.

Roy is vice chairman of Kissinger Associates, a strategic consulting firm, and served as the top U.S. envoy in Singapore, the People’s Republic of China and Indonesia. In 1996, he was promoted to career ambassador, the highest rank in the Foreign Service.

The Webcast and discussion with Hill take place from 6 to 6:30 p.m. with remarks and discussion with Roy from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost to attend is $20 for members and $30 for non-members.
