John A. Schrank, 58, of Gurnee, IL, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Highland Park Hospital from complications following heart surgery. John was born June 18, 1948 in Waukegan and was manager of Mike Schrank’s “Smoke N’ Gun” in Waukegan. He worked with his brother, Mike, side by side for 35 years starting in 1971. John was a member of the Northbrook Gun Club, board member of Crime Stoppers, Friends of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and the Hancock Lake Association. He was an avid skeet shooter, fisherman and loved relaxing at his cabin in Harshaw, Wisconsin on Hancock Lake. John was a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, receiving his B.S. degree in psychology. Survivors include two sons, William “Bill” Schrank and Alan Schrank; his beloved life partner, Janie Losch; two sister-in-laws, Joan and Kathy Schrank; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; mother, Viola; and two brothers, Mike and Edward Schrank. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Gurnee Funeral Home,4190 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2007. Friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be private.
