CUBS 6, BREWERS 2
Carlos Zambrano struck out a season-high nine and led the Cubs over the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 on Wednesday. Zambrano also delivered a pair of singles as the Cubs overcame Prince Fielder’s 21st home run. Felix Pie hit a three-run homer in the second inning as the Cubs roughed up Jeff Suppan (7-6). Pie also doubled and scored in the first.
CUBS HITS
A knee injury to Aramis Ramirez may force them to sideline the third baseman for an indefinite period. Ramirez suffered a strained left knee while hitting first base in the second inning. The loss of Ramirez for any length of time figures to be a major blow to the Cubs’ streaky offense.
– The Cubs called up RHP Sean Gallagher on Wednesday from Double-A Tennessee to replace Angel Guzman, who was put on the 15-day DL with a strained right elbow.
