– Both my daughter and I are so disappointed that “Gilmore Girls” has been canceled. What are the chances it will return? — Jo Verrill, Alleghenyville, Pa.
None. In fact, just after The CW announced the cancellation, series star Lauren Graham appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show and said she was satisfied with the decision to end the series. At least complete “Gilmore” withdrawal isn’t necessary; weekday repeats continue on ABC Family, and the first six seasons are available on DVD (soon to be joined by the final one, we’re sure).
As for the other “Gilmore” girl, Alexis Bledel is just starting work on a sequel to the movie “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” reuniting her with fellow stars America Ferrera (“Ugly Betty”), Amber Tamblyn and Blake Lively.
– What happened to the new Fox show “Drive”? It aired at an impossible time, opposite “Dancing With the Stars.” I hope someone will give this show another chance at a decent time. — Joan Stocker, Nazareth, Pa.
Except for the other existing episodes Fox plans to burn off – our phrase, not theirs – during the summer, that doesn’t seem likely. Even with the premiere it had on a Sunday (which kept it away from “Dancing”) and massive on-air promotion beforehand, the ratings weren’t impressive, even less so with the subsequent two Monday airings. Thus, Melanie Lynskey and the rest of the ensemble cast are likely to be seen again in “Drive” only when those leftover episodes air. Two are slated for July 4.
In a related matter, a number of readers have asked whether Lynskey will return to the CBS sitcom “Two and a Half Men.” That wasn’t certain at this writing, but it’s definitely more of a possibility now that she’s filmed her last “Drive.”
– Please tell me why James Caan will not be returning to “Las Vegas.” — Annie Schmalz, Mt. Prospect, Ill.
The actor will be in the first fall episode, but he reportedly wants to refocus on his big-screen career, undoubtedly having had to pass up movie offers while committed to the NBC series the past four seasons.
– Are they going to bring “Eureka” back on Sci Fi Channel? Please tell me they will. — Beth Nichols, Duncan, Okla.
OK, they will. The second season of the seriocomic show about a town of geniuses is scheduled to begin July 10, with series stars Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Joe Morton returning.
