Calling all food historians, collectors and others who believe (as I do) that the history of an event isn’t complete without the recipes.
Marilyn Girka of Elgin is looking for recipes from the Chicago Railroad Fair, which was held on the Chicago lakefront in 1948 and 1949 to commemorate a century of Chicago railroad history.
“The food was sooo good … a barbecue beef sandwich at the Mexican Indian exhibit was one of our favorites,” Girka writes. She is specifically seeking help in tracking down a gravy recipe (which had a little tomato flavor) she remembers from the Stop & Shop and Hillman food stores on State Street.
