Frank V. Abbate, age 76, of Burlington, formerly a resident of Oak Park, IL, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007 in Burlington. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Lieutenant Commander. Frank worked as a Civil Engineer for Cook County. He sang in the Paulist Choir and the Universal Opera Company. He earned his pilots license and enjoyed flying. Survivors include his children, Mark (Susan) Abbate of River Forest, IL, Frank Abbate of Phoenix, IL, Wendy Jean (Richard) Schmicker of Winamac, IN and Victoria Faust of Winamac, IN, grandchildren, James, Mary, Tristan and Gabrielle, and by a great-granddaughter, Nina. He is further survived by brothers, Joseph (Martha) Abbate and Charles (Margaret) Abbate. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jean, nee Cannella, Abbate and his wife, Dorothy. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Amann officiating. Inurnment will follow at Burlington Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to the family have been suggested.
