George Clooney isn’t one to shy away from causes. He’s raised funds for victims of violence in Darfur, and he’s supporting Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
Now he’s joined an anti-construction movement in the quiet Italian town where he owns a villa.
Clooney and about 300 townspeople signed a petition against the construction of parking lots and a promenade in Laglio on Lake Como, according to the AP. Critics believe the construction would harm the environment.
“Yes I signed it,” he said in an e-mail Friday. “My concern is that this village that has stood for hundreds of years would be destroyed simply because I happened to have lived there for the last six years. “
The mayor said that at least part of the project has now been scrapped.
