*SAILING: America’s Cup defender Alinghi pounced on a sudden wind shift Saturday to secure a come-from-behind victory and take a 4-2 lead in the best-of-nine series in Valencia, Spain. Alinghi’s 28-second win means Emirates Team New Zealand must take three straight races, beginning Sunday.

*BOXING: Evander Holyfield, 44, recorded a 10-round unanimous decision over Lou Savarese, 41, in El Paso, Texas.The heavyweight is 4-0 since returning to boxing after a two-year layoff.

*GYMNASTICS: Jonathan Horton won the all-around title at a key men’s meet between the United States, Russia and Ukraine in Kiev. The victory for Horton offset the American team’s third-place finish in the team competition. The meet was considered important because many of the best Americans were there.

*MARATHON: Champion marathoner Alberto Salazar collapsed Saturday at the Nike World campus in Portland, Ore., and had to be hospitalized with a heart problem. According to a news release from Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, Salazar did not have a heart attack. But the 48-year-old did have to have a stent inserted to open up an artery.

*COLLEGES: Former Vanderbilt pitcher David Price won the Golden Spikes Award as the nation’s best amateur baseball player. Taken first in the draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Price finished his junior season 11-1 with a 2.63 ERA and 194 strikeouts. … North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Indiana-Purdue-Ft. Wayne will join the Summit League, formerly the Mid-Continent Conference. Former member Chicago State became an independent and Valparaiso announced plans to join the Horizon League.
