Cliff Floyd had been away from the Cubs for nine days dealing with the death of his father.

He found his stroke in a hurry.

Floyd hit a go-ahead two-run single in the ninth inning, when the Cubs rallied against Tim Lincecum for a 5-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.

Lincecum (7-4) was three outs from his first career complete game when the Cubs finally got to the rookie right-hander. Ryan Theriot doubled to start the ninth, Jacque Jones followed with a base hit before Derrek Lee’s RBI single tied the game at 1.

Two batters later, Floyd singled off Brad Hennessey to put the Cubs up 3-1.

Scott Eyre (1-1) pitched the eighth for the win against his old team. Jason Kendall added a two-run single later in the ninth off Steve Kline.

The Cubs began their six-game West Coast trip with a hard-fought win after starting the night tied with the Brewers for first place in the NL Central, and Milwaukee won 7-4 at Arizona.

CUBS HITS

The Cubs-Cardinals game postponed by rain Sunday will be made up Sept. 10 at 2:20 p.m. at Wrigley Field. Tickets will be available starting at 10 a.m. Friday.

– Henry Blanco returned to the Cubs on Tuesday after being out since May 31.

– Pitching coach Larry Rothschild stayed in Chicago to be with his ailing father. He’s expected to rejoin the team Wednesday.
